Scouting for Food
On March 18, 2017, Seneca Waterways Council for Boy Scouts of America held their annual Food Drive to help Food Shelves in Monroe County and the surrounding counties.
Troop 48 and Crew 277 from Greece, and Troop 165 from Spencerport helped gather, sort and pack up the food donated to Scouting for Food at Greece Odyssey on Maiden Lane, Greece. The Greece Police and Police Explorers helped with directing traffic so that everything went smoothly.
The collected food went to Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf, The Lord’s House, and St. Regis Food Cupboard. Food was collected from neighborhoods in Greece and brought to the collection site by many volunteers. Over 50 volunteers worked hard to sort, box and put into pallets the donations. This site collected 150 boxes of food for the food shelves. This was just a small portion of the work that took place in the yearly Scouting for Food campaign. The Scouts also collected food at Maiden Lane Tops and collected 30 boxes of food.
Many thanks to those that continued the tradition of delivering bags and door hangers even though they may have not had power at home. The food shelves were grateful for the donations that they received this year, especially with having a higher need as a result of the recent storms.
