The Greece Kiwanis Club has implemented its 1st ever scholarship program in memory and honor of one of our most distinguished members, John Baart, who passed away in October of 2017.

Kiwanis Club of Greece is honored and proud to sponsor the vibrant Greece Arcadia Key Club. They have worked together on many community projects, and are excited to grow the clubs and make an even larger impact in the community. Thank you to Karen Kline and Erin Morrison-Fortunato for being the Key Club Advisors.

Key Club is an international, student-led organization, founded in 1925, that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership skills. It is actually the world’s oldest and largest service organization for high school students.

The scholarship provides each recipient with $500. The recipients must be Active Key Club Members, Graduating in 2018, Active in Community Service, and Represent the Spirit of Arcadia High School.

•1st Recipient, Zeynep Karaibrahim, Zeynep represents all of the qualifications plus more. She is on the Varsity Swim Team, JV Outdoor Track, National Honor Society; Volunteers with youth in the community through swim; is the Webmaster for Key Club, has helped with Kiwanis fundraisers, etc. Quoted from her essay, “As I was growing up, my parents always emphasized helping others, even when you could not help yourself.” She plans to attend University of South California and major in Electrical Engineering.

•2nd recipient, Christina Lee, who also represents the spirit of the scholarship. She is the President of Key Club, member of National Honor Society, Urban League of Rochester: Black Scholar; Mosaics Club; She has volunteered at St. Paul Believers Church, City of Rochester’s Annual Clean Sweep, Kiwanis Salvation Army Bell Ringing, etc. She has learned a valuable lesson, early on, and briefly described it in her essay. After serving food to families in need, she learned that people often take things for granted, so Christina started to become more thankful for what she has in her life. Christina will be attending The College at Brockport and intends to major in Graphic Design.
