New Book From Greece Historical Society

hometown-sports-bookThe Greece Historical Society has just published a new book that features prominent sports figures from the Town of Greece, Hometown Sports Heroes of Greece New York, edited by Tom Sawnor and Marie Poinan is now available at the Greece Historical Society Gift Shop.

Hometown Sports Heroes of Greece, New York features 34 athletes who made prominent contributions to, and had careers in, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, hockey, golf, volleyball, track, and cross country. They range in age from 26 to 87.

Greece had men and women who were in the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Including a major league baseball player and memorable sports figures from the town’s past. Bob Keegan, Shifty Gears, Joe McShea, Leo Lyons, Mike Conroy and Dick Post are all featured in the book.

Three legendary coaches are also featured. They include Joe Altobelli, Jim Johnson, and Ed Nietopski. The book is 64 plus pages in full color, chock full of photos and accounts of each sports figure in their own words. Based on interviews and the year-long exhibit in the GHS museum, this book preserves the stories of these athletes and is the first of its kind published by the Greece Historical Society.

The book is available in the gift shop and sells for $18.00.
