Pictured (l to r) Betty Griswold, Former Chairperson, Amy Peritsky, Present Chairperson, Shirley Munson, Secretary, Nancy Landas, Publicity, and Molly Ives, (Not Pictured) all from Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf were responsible for registering walkers for the 2017 CROP WALK which netted nearly $7,000 for the Annual Food Drive. One quarter of that will remain in Greece, while the rest will be divided between state, national and international sites.

Since 1977 the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf (GEFS), located at 500 Maiden Lane, Greece, has been providing emergency food to their neighbors in need. In the past year volunteers provided 5,480 individuals living in Greece and Charlotte with food for one week.

They have fed over one eighth of the population of Greece and Charlotte when families experience food emergencies. The annual budget to accomplish this is staggering. GEFS provides three boxes of food per family. Food boxes contain fresh, nutritional items including bread, milk, eggs, margarine and meat to accompany the food. The boxes contain enough food for three meals a day for about a week, food to help the family survive a food emergency.

For forty years the Annual CROP WALK is the fundraiser the the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf has relied on to accomplish their success in feeding the hungry in Greece. The CROP WALK was held this year at Messiah Lutheran Church in Greece on Sunday, May 7, 2017.

Along with the donations received in the form of food and money, over 200 volunteers keep the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf running.

Non-perishable food item donations can be brought to the Food Shelf on Mondays between 9AM-11AM. If this is not convenient call the Food Shelf pager at 585-277-5370 to make other arrangements. Monetary donations can be mailed to Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf, 500 Maiden Lane, Rochester, New York 14616 ATTN: Treasurer.
