Aqua Dam Reinstalled

By on April 19, 2018

A requested aqua dam arrived on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

The aqua dam is being installed along the lakeside residential properties at 2174/2178/2184 Old Edgemere Drive in the Town of Greece. The aqua dam was installed last year at this location at the request of Supervisor Reilich in response to waters flooding through a vacant property in the area. This location is a low area on the shoreline of Lake Ontario and during the severe flooding event last year, it was the site of extensive waters that ran through the property and caused flooding in the road.

The Aqua Dam protected the entire neighborhood from further flooding and infrastructure stress and damage. The aqua dam also prevented continued flooding, and allowed the road to be kept clear of flood waters for the benefit of lakeshore residents and emergency service vehicles and it protected the Town’s infrastructure (road, storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems) from increased damage.

Representatives from the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control coordinated the reinstallation of the aqua dam with assistance by Greece DPW Crew Members.

“The Greece Town Board and I are doing everything in our power to combat potential flooding this year. I am excited to inform residents that the requested aqua dam has arrived and is currently being installed. We have been proactive in addressing potential flooding by installing 11 storm sewer shut off valves to prevent floodwaters from flooding Town roads, requesting the sandbag machine again to help provide sandbags to Greece shoreline residents, and commissioned the construction of a berm along Round Pond where we experienced the most severe continuous flooding. I will keep residents updated on the installation process and other resources that will be available,” Reilich said.
