The New York State Ballet Presents The Nutcracker

By on November 29, 2018

The New York State Ballet is proud to present its 2018 The Nutcracker, set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score. Performed with a live orchestra under the direction of Music Director, Jared Chase and accompanied by the Lyric Voices, this production opens December 14th at the Kodak Center for the Performing Arts.

Follow along as Young Clara falls asleep at her family’s Christmas party under a majestic Christmas tree with her beloved Nutcracker doll by her side. Watch as her doll magically comes alive, battles the Mouse King and his army, and takes her to the Land of Sweets. There she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and enjoys enchanting dances from around the world.

Artistic Director Katherine Johnson is excited for the New York State Ballet’s 6th season showing of The Nutcracker. Along with Ballet Master Robert Royce, who showcases his dancing talents as Herr Drosselmeyer for the second time this year, and Graduate Program Director Alexandra Brydsten, the creative team of the New York State Ballet is eager for the Rochester area and beyond to share in the joy and magic that this holiday classic brings.

Incorporating, as always, the full Company of dancers and many students from New York State Ballet’s training academy, the newest addition this year are dancers from NYSB’s Graduate Program. The five dancers in this elite program will be dancing in their first Nutcracker performance with the New York State Ballet this season in various roles. Student from the training academy get to showcase their ever growing talents alongside the Company, some of them in their first ever performances.
