The Greece Storm Wrestlers…Four High Schools-One Team
Wrestling has been part of the Greece High Schools since the 1970s. For over 40 years the wrestling program has been made up of three separate teams, each high school had their own individual team. In 2012 a decision was made under the direction of Head Varsity Coach John Bonaldi to bring the programs together and have all four high schools form a stronger and more competitive team called Greece Storm Wrestling. More than 55 wrestlers, grades 7th through 12th, are on the Greece Storm team. Greece Storm has seven experienced coaches. The acting head Varsity Coach is Sam Riveria, a former Rush Henrietta wrestler. Greece Storm competes in Section V, Divison 3.
Wrestling practices begins on November 7th. Practices take place at Olympia High School. Home matches take place at Arcadia High School. The season runs November through January with Super Sectionals taking place in January. The NYS tournament takes place in February. The program has minimal expense to the family with the only requirement being wrestling shoes. Coaches and wrestlers are looking forward to a very good year in wrestling. Coach Sam Rivera says, “This new era of Greece Wrestling represents a change for an even stronger team.”
