A second proclamation ceremony was held during the meeting honoring the Bishop Kearney Varsity Girls Softball Pitcher Emily Phelan for her numerous athletic accomplishments during the season and for achieving the title of New York State Player of the Year.

The title of New York State Player of the Year is awarded to students based on their outstanding achievements in their particular sport. This past season, Emily set several Section V Title records, including pitching 3 perfect games, having 9 no-hitters, having 358 strikeouts, and having a .42 ERA (Earned Run Average). Her achievements are also Bishop Kearney records.

The Bishop Kearney Varsity Girls Softball Team ended a 35 year drought this past season by winning the Section V Title. They then proceeded to capture the Western Regional Championship, and finished up the season by winning the New York State Championship in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Pine Plains of Duchess County in Glens Falls, New York. In addition to these achievements, the team was also a unanimous choice for the Team of the Year title, and ranked number 1 in the State in the Final Polls. They set a final record of 25-2, and had 22 straight victories this season.
