Annual Town of Greece Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony

The Town of Greece, in conjunction with the American Legion Post Number 468 and Commander George Dadson, Jr., hosted the Town of Greece Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 28, 2018. This event is held annually and is free and open to the public.

The day started off with a remembrance ceremony hosted by the American Legion Post. The Memorial Day Parade kicked off at noon and featured such participants as Greece Post 468 Color Guard, Legion Posts, the Rochester Honor Flight, the Monroe County Veteran Services Agency, Supervisor Bill Reilich and the Greece Town Board, Elected Officials, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, Fire and Police Departments, Ambulance Services, Marching Bands, the Taekwondo School, Lucky Tikes Daycare, and the Rochester Street Machines.

Following the parade was the Town of Greece Remembrance Ceremony, held at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion. During the Ceremony, Supervisor Bill Reilich, Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, and American Legion Post Number 468 Commander George Dadson, Jr. gave remarks in memory of those who served our country and paid the ultimate price. Conflict names were also read in remembrance of those who lost their lives serving our country. All in attendance had the opportunity to visit the Gary Beikirch Veterans Memorial Wall, located on the east side of Greece Town Hall, where 26 new veteran names were recently inscribed. The day concluded with a luncheon hosted by the American Legion Post.

“Since the dedication of our Veteran’s Memorial Wall on May 31, 1999, we have added thousands of names to the wall. The Town of Greece is honored to have so many brave men and women who have fought for our freedom and our great Nation. It is my privilege to pay tribute to all Greece residents, and all of our military men and women throughout our country, who so selflessly serve our nation,” said Supervisor Bill Reilich.
