First Place Finisher for the Super Hero Sprint: Jared Wade

The Town of Greece Old Fashioned 4th of July event was held in celebration of Independence Day. This is the fifth year the Town of Greece has organized and hosted the celebration at the Greece Town Hall Campus. This popular event is free and open to the public.

The day kicked off at 7:30am with the Town of Greece Freedom Run 5k. Congratulations to first place male runner Jason McElwain (aka J-Mac) and first place female runner Laurie Weidert. Following the 5k was the Super Hero Sprint for kids. Every kid was a super hero that day as they followed Batman, Captain America, and Super Mario in warm ups and a fun run around the Greece Town Hall Campus. Congratulations to our young resident, Jared Wade, on finishing in first place.

Evening festivities picked up around 4:00pm with the opening of several food trucks, including local favorites Lugia’s Ice Cream, Rob’s Kabob’s, J&S Fried Dough, Sully’s, Red Osier, Macarollin’, and Dave’s Fine Food. Family-friendly and children’s activities were in full swing  as kids enjoyed bounce houses, games, and were treated to a free book from the Library Book Mobile “Free Books for Kids” Cart.

At 6:00pm the first act of the night – Josie Waverly – performed at the Town Pavilion. Josie Waverly has performed all over the United States as a headliner as well as an opening act for many of Nashville’s leading entertainers. Heavily involved in the Greater Rochester community, Josie has been named “Hilton’s Citizen of the Year” and was featured in the Rochester Women Magazine.

Following Josie Waverly was the main act of the night, Orleans. Orleans performed during the first 4th of July Celebration and they were so popular the Town brought them back. They are a unique pop/rock band that has been entertaining fans since 1972.

The huge celebration ended with a bang. The Town of Greece is proud to have one of the best firework displays in Monroe County, and this year did not disappoint.

The Town of Greece would like to thank all that came out for the event, and the following sponsors for their contributions to our celebration: Wegmans, M&T Bank, Mark IV Enterprises, Campobello Construction, and Bob Johnson Chevrolet.

For the 5th year in a row the Town of Greece has been able to provide their fireworks show at no cost to taxpayers.
