Town of Greece Employees Present at New York State Floodplain & Stormwater Managers Association

Greece Town employees John Gauthier and John Caterino have been invited to present at the 19th Annual Meeting on the New York State Flood Plain and Stormwater Managers Association (NYSFSMA) on April 16th, 2019 in Suffern, New York on the topic of Lake Ontario Flooding.

Both John Gauthier, the Town of Greece Associate Engineer and John Caterino, the Greece Department of Planning and Development Junior Planner, are Certified Flood Plain Managers. During their presentation, they will discuss such topics as the history of Lake Ontario regulation, Plan 2014 and the associated controversy, the 2017 flooding events with photos and graphs, an overview of the damage and measures undertaken for the future, and GIS analysis of impacts of the new Risk mapping.

The NYSFSMA is a professional organization dedicated to promoting floodplain and stormwater management practices that reduce flood damages and protect water quality. In addition to presenting to the Association, Mr. Gauthier and Mr. Caterino will also have the opportunity to expand their knowledge by participating in such activities as a roundtable discussion of floodplain resiliency with the American Planning Association, an afternoon bus tour of sites of interest regarding floodplains, storm water management, and historic preservation, a discussion of the Community Rating System with colleagues, and attendance of nearly 30 presentations and workshops.
