From The Supervisor – June 2016
With warmer days here again, here at Town Hall we are preparing for a very busy summer filled with returning events and new ones as well. We are excited to bring back community favorites, Supervisor Reilich’s Summer Concerts at the Hall, the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, and many more. After a successful first season the Town’s Pickleball Courts are now in full swing and are getting plenty of usage with leagues and exhibition games. Last year over 20 teams participated in the Town’s Pickleball leagues, tournament and challenges. If you are interested in joining a league or finding out more about Pickleball please call the Community Center at 723-2425 for more information.
The Town of Greece, in conjunction with the Town of Greece Youth Board, hosted the second annual Jerry J. Helfer Memorial Scholarship Food Truck Rodeo on May 4th Local favorites Macarollin, Sweet Sammie Janes, The Meatball Truck, Papa Gigs, and many more were on hand to serve up dinner and dessert. The Food Truck Rodeo drew in people from throughout the Greece and Monroe County community.
The proceeds that were raised from the event went towards the Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Award Scholarship. Last year, the Town announced that this scholarship would be awarded to a student within the Greece community that regularly upholds exemplary moral values, devotes time and energy into helping serve the Greece community, and consistently displays outstanding leadership skills.
We are also in full swing in preparation for our Town’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration. This year we will be bringing back the Freedom Run 5k, where residents from the Town and the surrounding areas have the ability to sign up and participate in the race. Our newly mapped USATF Certified course will provide both the beginner and veteran runner a unique and exciting challenge on race day. If you are interested in participating please visit www.runsignup.com/Race/NY/Rochester/Greece5KFreedomRunfor more information. Our musical performance this will be the 80’s hit band Ambrosia. As always food and beverages will be available and a brilliant fireworks display will wrap up the day’s festivities.
As always, should you ever have a Town related issue, please feel free to contact my office at 225-2000 or visit our website at greeceny.gov.
