From the Supervisor – April 2018

I hope everyone has been able to enjoy the first couple of months of the New Year! Here at Town Hall we are getting a head start on all the great programs we have planned for this spring and summer. This summer will be filled with many Town favorite events like the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, our Town’s Summer Concert Series, and the Jerry J. Helfer Memorial Food Truck Rodeo. Keep a look out for more details about these events and many more on my Facebook page and the Town of Greece website.

We have held many fun events at the Community and Senior Center this past month, including the first ever Daddy Daughter Dance!

Be sure to save the date for our 5th annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration! This celebration has become a beloved event – from the Freedom Run 5k in the morning to the spectacular fireworks display in the evening. The event, which is free and open to the public, also features a Super Hero Sprint for kids, children’s activities, food trucks, and performances by well-known music artists. This year, we will be bringing back the wildly popular band Orleans! Make sure to also save the date for our annual Jerry J. Helfer Memorial Food Truck Rodeo on June 10th, which will be in conjunction with our first Summer Concert featuring Elvis Lives!

100 dads and daughters turned out for a magical evening of dancing, crafts, food, and photo opportunities. Participants danced throughout the night to the YMCA, hokey pokey and more while enjoying their night out. A special thanks to the Recreation Team and volunteers who helped make this night possible. We were happy to see so many fathers and daughters participate in this fun event!

This Past month we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the first microbrewery to open in Greece: Wood Kettle Brewing. This new business, which is owned and operated by Mark Miles, Jeff Allen, and their late partner, Bill Allen, offers a variety of beer, wine, and food. This family-friendly establishment is located at 1192 Manitou Road.

I’m very excited to announce a new feature on the Greece Town Hall Campus. We now have a designated secure area by the Greece Town Court Building for safe and secure internet business to be conducted. Signs featuring the Town of Greece seal and reading “Internet Purchase Exchange Location – This Area Is Under Video Surveillance” have been placed directly in front of the light pole off the Northeast corner of the Greece Town Court building. This location features a fixed camera with an excellent focus setting that will serve to record and monitor the transactions with a focus on safety.

As always, I enjoy hearing feedback from residents about programming and other Town-related issues. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit our website.
