Don't miss

From the Supervisor – March 2019

By on March 4, 2019

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm as we battle through another Western New York winter season! I would like to remind residents to allow for extra travel time during their commute and to be mindful of weather warnings.

To kick off 2019, we have hosted community recognition ceremonies, offered extended hours at the Tax Department, and have begun rolling out a program to offer Defensive Driving Courses to Greece residents!

It is always an honor for me to recognize the outstanding young people in our community. During our most recent Greece Town Board Meeting, I was joined by our Council members to present a proclamation and medal to Timothy Morris who recently achieved Eagle Scout Ranking through his efforts in designing and building a GaGa Pit on the grounds of Northstar Christian Academy. Thank you, Tim, for your dedication to a project that will be enjoyed by all students of Northstar Christian Academy!

I would like to give a shout-out to 4th Ward Councilwoman Diana Christodaro for hosting a presentation for a group on local Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 60407 and their leaders on the topic of local government. She was excited to talk with the girls about how she became a Councilwoman, what being a Councilwoman entails, and how decisions are made by the Greece Town Board.

In an effort to assist residents who may find it difficult to visit the Town of Greece Tax Department during regular business hours, Greece Receiver of Taxes Andrew Conlon and I worked together to offer extended hours at the Tax Department to help ensure that residents meet certain tax collection deadlines. We offered extended hours during February and, coming up, the Tax Department will be open 7am – 7pm Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1.

I am very excited to announce that the Town of Greece has been approved to offer Defensive Driving Courses at a reduced rate to our residents! This means that residents may now take Defensive Driving Courses at the Town of Greece Police Headquarters, which has been approved as an official National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course location. Bringing cost-efficient services to Greece residents has always been one of my top priorities. Other organizations that offer Defensive Driving Courses range from $24.99/student all the way to $44/student. I am pleased to offer these courses at the very reasonable rate of $17/student, which covers the cost of the materials provided. I hope you will take advantage of this great service the town now offers! Safety is a top priority, and having well-trained drivers is beneficial to all residents. Greece Residents who are interested in attending Defensive Driving Courses may sign up via the Town of Greece website by visiting, clicking the “Residents” tab on the upper right hand corner of the home page, selecting “Defensive Driving Course”, and following the link to submit the online registration form. Residents who wish to register in person must do so at the the Town of Greece Community Center counter. Class sizes are limited to the first 20 students who register, which means that registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that there are no refunds for these courses and that these courses are currently being offered to Greece residents only. Several courses will be scheduled throughout the year – please check the Town of Greece website for updated information on upcoming courses. Due to the 6-hour required length of the course, Defensive Driving Courses will be held in two separate session on weeknights (ex: 3 hours on Tuesday evening and 3 hours on Thursday evening of the same week).

As always, I enjoy hearing feedback from residents about programming and other Town-related matters. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit our website.
